“Mako, you were up? Wait, did you just hear me talking?” Out walks a yawning Mako, dressed in her light blue sleeping gown. A few seconds later, the sound of rushing water from the bathroom fills the house and a bright light comes out from behind its door. “Maybe you’re curious to see what she wants.”Ĭaught off guard by the sudden response, Ryuko rolls back over to see who was talking to her, but all she sees is Mako’s empty futon. Frustrated just a bit, she flails around for a moment, “Damn it, why does that line get me like this?” Satsuki’s words from their last conversation start replaying in Ryuko’s head repeating one last time, her cheeks quickly warm up and her heart beat races. “ Let’s start spending more time together.” Off in the distance, she can see the top of the school, where Satsuki tends to give her announcements. The clear sky seems endless and stars gleam around the moon. She turns over to her side and notices the bright moonlight shining through the window. “Why the hell is this on my mind so much tonight?” Ryuko whispers to herself as not to disturb the rest of the sleeping family.
Dressed in her normal orange bunny print pajama set, she kicks off the thick blankets and folds her arms behind her head, letting out a small sigh. Blank stare and mind stuffed with a single thought, Ryuko can’t help but wonder if there’s really some kind of ulterior motive behind her sister’s words.
The ceiling stares back at the sleepless Ryuko, who has been staring at the wooden ceiling for quite some time.
